The DST-NRF Centre of Excellence in Human Development (CoE-HUMAN) at the University of the Witwatersrand seeks to appoint a research assistant in a full- or part-time capacity on a 6-12 month contract. This position is based in Durban and reports directly to Professor Linda Richter.

Responsibilities

  • Provide technical and administrative assistance to Prof Richter on various large-scale research projects, mostly in the field of Early Childhood Development
  • Conduct literature reviews
  • Analyse, summarize and visually present data
  • Co-ordinate local and international travel
  • Arrange meetings and workshops
  • Prepare manuscripts for journal submission
  • Edit and format reports and other documents
  • Maintain and update several publication databases
  • Assist in the operations of CoE-Human
Requirements
  • A post-graduate degree in Social Science, Economics, Public Health, Humanities or Development
  • Knowledge and experience managing and/or working on research projects
  • Experience in using Microsoft Word, PowerPoint and Excel
  • Strong organizational skills and time management
  • Ability to work independently and take initiative on a variety of tasks
  • Good interpersonal skills and professional communication
